Study Tips

Use these helpful tips to help you learn the Drug Quiz Show material and prepare for competition. Study hard, but most of all … HAVE FUN!
1. Briefly review the pamphlets in your official study packets and divide them into categories (Marijuana, Stimulants, Depressants, etc.).
2. Read those on “General Drug Information” first. Also check the Learning Center titled ”General Information About Drugs.” Together these will give you the basic knowledge needed to understand the information on specific drugs.
3. Study all of the information in one category at a time. Remember to refer to the Learning Centers as well as to the materials found in the study packets.
4. Read and study the “easiest” pamphlets first. Then work up to the more difficult ones.
5. Ask your parents, siblings, friends, and teachers to review the information and quiz you on what you have learned.
6. Arrange study sessions with your teammates. Meet during study hall, lunch, or after school, preferably with a peer coach, parent, or teacher to supervise.
7. Be prepared. Read the pamphlets before the study sessions. It will be easier to learn the information if you are reviewing it instead of reading it then for the very first time.
8. Remember – these are only suggestions! From doing schoolwork, you probably already know which study methods work best for you (for example, using flash cards or hearing the information presented out loud).
9. Speaking of schoolwork, studying for the Drug Quiz Show does not excuse you from doing your regular work. If you miss class for a competition, remember it is your responsibility (not your teacher’s) to make sure you find out what work you have to make up.
10. Most important of all, remember to have FUN and to feel good about yourself! We’re really proud of you for getting involved!
